Internet
Access and IT Services for Tenants and Productions while at Fox Studios
Australia.

Aerial View of Studios
OVERVIEW
Fox Studios Australia can provide a range of IT support services for
tenants and productions based on the lot.
Internet access is achieved through a
high speed fibre optic connection that is reticulated throughout the site.
This typically operates at 100Mbit/s but can be scaled up to 1Gbit/s if
there is special need.
Other services include domain name, email
and website hosting; PC and Macintosh setup and support; network setup and
support; rental of network equipment; supply of cables and consulting
services.
ACCESS SERVICES
To access IT services, place a call to the HelpDesk. The phone number and
procedure for accessing HelpDesk is in the information pack provided when
you arrived. HelpDesk staff will coordinate rate enquiries, installations
and service requests.
COMMON QUESTIONS
The following are common questions asked and issues faced by people when
connecting to our services:
Why can't I send emails?
If your email is hosted through a service other than Fox, you will
probably have to change the outgoing email server setting (SMTP Server) in
your email program. The correct setting while connected to our service is
smtp.foxbyte.com.au. When reconnecting to your usual Internet
provider, you will need to change this back, so make a note of the setting
before changing it.
What network settings do I use?
If we supply a managed firewall to you, your PC or Mac systems should have DHCP enabled.
If you need to set DNS servers manually, use the following addresses:
203.94.129.130
128.185.65.254
203.94.140.38
If you use your own firewall, use the following default gateway:
165.69.252.1
Is your service cable or ADSL?
It is neither. The service provided is delivered on a high speed
campus Ethernet network.
How fast is the connection?
Very fast - it is typically 10 to 100 times faster than either ADSL or
Cable. As described above, our service is delivered via a scalable
connection starting at 100Mbit/s. Services are provisioned to your
location at either 10Mbit/s or 100Mbit/s depending on the building you
occupy. In real terms, our connection speed will be faster than the
Internet services you are connecting to.
Are there download limits?
No. But remember, you are being billed for all information you
download. It is up to you to manage your Internet usage. Services such as
Internet Radio or streaming video can cause a lot of downloaded data in a
short time. It is a wise practice to turn off computers at night and over
weekend/holiday periods as repeated attempts to retrieve email or active
content on an open web browser can lead to a large bill.
Why is my bill suddenly much larger
than normal?
There are many reasons this may have occurred. As noted above, some
services such as music and video, or faulty email systems can also cause
large downloads. Virus attacks can open your system to exploitation by
hackers who can use it for a variety of data intensive purposes. Remember,
you are responsible for all charges accumulated by your service, so
practice wise computing habits.
Why do you require a firewall to be
installed?
A firewall is a first line of defense for your systems from hackers.
It also isolates traffic between your computers and the rest of our
network and customers. In both cases this protects the integrity of our
network.
Can we install our own firewall?
Yes - if it meets our standards and after we test the configuration.
(There is a fee for this test.) We prefer to provide managed firewall
systems to you, as there is then no ambiguity about responsibility if
there is a problem with your connection. Also, we maintain spare equipment
and can replace any failed items within an hour or less.
Does your firewall stop viruses?
The firewall systems we provide are not an anti-virus solution.
Firewalls are designed to stop unsolicited connections to computers they
protect from devices on external networks. Although a few advanced
firewall systems also have a module to assist with virus protection, most
do not. In any case such a system is only one part of anti-virus
protection. In all cases you should have up-to-date antivirus
software installed on all computers on your network. The disruption to
business caused by virus activity makes this imperative.
